The house was originally heated with a fuel oil furnace and supplemented with two beautiful coal burning fireplaces. The above mantel is handcarved with four turned pilasters. The fireplace itself is covered with a removeable hammered copper "summer cover." This picutre also shows the beautiful trim and floors that are throughout the downstairs.

This is one of the many built-ins throughout the house. This built-in is located in the dining room. The bottom drawers are perfect for storing silverware and table linens. The middle doors acted as a pass-thru to the kitchen for the servants. The upper portion of the piece showcases and acts as storage for china.

The kitchen was recently remodeled and the original wood floors were restored. This is the exit to the back porch and the landing to the left leads to the back staircase.

The above picture is the music room. It has a set of pocket doors on each of its two doorways.
Ceilings throughout the downstairsa are 10' high and upstairs are 9'high.
This is the second fireplace located in the informal or
"ladies" sitting room. It also has large wooden columns flanking both sides of the mirrored mantel as well as a hamered copper summer cover. The doorway to the right leads into the music room and to the left into the dining room.

This is a rough floorplan of the main floor. The top of the page is east. The main entrance is from the north side into the foyer. There is also an entrance that was probably used for friends and family into the parlor (informal parlor) from the east. There is also another entrance into the kitchen through the back porch on the southwest corner of the house.

The downstairs bathroom and sunroom were an addition during the 1930s. After J.W. Ellis' death in 1936, the Ellis' daughter Cloia remained in the home with her family to care for her mother Elizabeth who was sick for many years with complications from a bout with influenza. This addition provided for a separate entrance and exit to the south as well as independent heating (floor furnace).

This is the sunroom on the east of the home. It is covered by large trees from direct sunlight. As in every room of the house, the windows are covered with lace purchased in Ireland by the previous owners of several years.
