 original condition with modern amenities

The Ellis Home has been kept in its original condition by four meticulous owners during its history.  Historically perserved  from the limestone curbing to the glass mailbox, working doorbells installed in each door, operating transoms, hand-rubbed staircase and beautiful fir wood floors, this house is truly unique.  Ruby red glass windows are found in several rooms as are beautiful stained glass pieces.  The original fuel heating system was centrally ducted throughout the house allowing a natural conversion to central heat and air highlighting the beautiful, intricate iron heat registers in each room.  The first and second floors and the basement are all heated and cooled with high efficiency systems installed in 2002.

The kitchen was tastefully remodeled in 2007 using historical colors from Benjamin Moore paints, ribbed glass cabinets, granite and several new appliances.  The original fir floors were restored.

The electrical and plumbing systems have been updated and are in perfect working order and boast 7 leaded crystal chandeliers throughout the house and a independent natural gas floor furnace in the sunroom replaced in approximately 2003 for supplemental heat of the sunroom.

The carriage house is the only remaining structure in the area in its original condition including stalls, loft and carriage storage.

HISTORY OF THE HOUSE

John W Ellis began construction somewhere around 1894 and completed the house in 1900.  The original abstract dates back to 1857 when the United States of America and President James Buchanan gave the land to Henry Daingerfield in consideration for military service.  The abstract containing the entire house history transfers with the house.  In approximately 1890, the world's largest deposits of lead and zinc were found in Webb City and the city grew overnight.  J.W. Ellis was a real estate dealer in the area and built this home during the mining boom.
