The carriage house was constructed prior to the home.  It is unique for the area since it is the only one that has been left in its original condition.  It is 20' x 26' and has a full staircase leading to the upstairs.  To the right of the lattice-work is a sliding door where the carriage was stored and includes the original workbench.  The red door leads into a hallway (shown below left) that ends with the staircase (shown below right).  The two stables make up the south portion of the shed.  The upstairs is a two-level open loft that spans the entire upstairs and has two doors for hay drops into the stables below and a grain chute that sends grain into a feeder along the hallway below.  The carriage house does have a separate breaker box and has several electrical outlets and overhead lighting upstairs.

The upstairs served as the residence for the Ellis family during final stages of the house construction.

The rock flower bed in the right of the picture is actually the original water well.  It is 17' deep and 4' wide.  The walls of the well are brick-lined with a concrete cap and iron bars at the mouth.  It has maintained a constant water level during the summer.
